NASC Comes to Philadelphia!

The Pennsylvania Institute on Criminal Sentencing Welcomes the National Association of Sentencing Commissions (NASC) to Philadelphia. From August 6-8, 2006, NASC will hold its Annual Conference at the Four Seasons Hotel in Philadelphia.

This thirteenth annual NASC Conference will feature policy sessions on information exchange, sentencing of juveniles, and federalism; research sessions on sex offenders, problem-solving courts and drug treatment; and other sessions on risk assessment, population projections, economic impact and probation reform.  Click here for the complete program schedule.

PA’s State Intermediate Punishment

State Intermediate Punishment (SIP) is a new sentencing alternative in Pennsylvania.  It provides for a flat 24-month term for serious offenders needing drug treatment who would otherwise be incarcerated in a State Correctional Institution.  This program revolves around step-down drug treatment starting “behind the walls” and transitioning into the community.
